Joe gets the boot, sparks the team!? May 23, 2008

Girardi really showed some fire on Thursday when he was ejected in the 9th inning of a tied game. The ejection came when he argued a very late call by the home plate umpire. Giambi was called out on a ball that was called a foul tip. If you watched the game, you could see from the replay that the ball did not hit the bat. Well, that’s my opinion but I don’t even think that was the entire reason Girardi had a beef. The umpire made the call late and after a little coaxing from the Oriole’s catcher, Ramon Hernandez, he called Giambi out.
The fact is, Giradi gave the game and the team a little jolt in the 9th, the crowd was buzzing and even gave him a very loud applause when he exited the game. It looked like this was building up inside the manager because of the disappointing play from the Yanks and so he really gave the umpire a “Lou Pinella”!
Behind Robinson Cano’s single in the 9th inning that scored Hideki Matsui from second, the Yankees beat the Orioles 2 to 1 in a very nice game.
There were a few bright spots in this game. Cano’s single of course, Ian Kennedy having a decent outing, Shelly Duncan coming thru.. Along with Arod’s return, maybe this the type of reaction from the manager that the team needs and will spark them to go on a huge winning streak. I hope so!

Oh by the way.. Willie Randolph, take notes!
